Humanitarian Trip

I have always wanted to participate in a humanitarian trip and I have just received a great opportunity to join the P.A.G.E.S. (Philippine American Group of Educators and Surgeons) team with Operation HOPE. This is a team that spends two weeks every year in the Philippines to help the underprivileged Filipino children born with birth defects like cleft lips and/or palates. My brother-in-law has gone every year as a surgeon for as long as I can remember and I have always admired him for his service. This is a terrific opportunity to serve and I am looking forward to helping in the effort to give these children hope for a brighter future. Since Craig and I are both students we don't have a lot of extra money but I will be doing what I can to raise the money to go because I don't want to pass up the opportunity to do what little I can to help. This is my niece Meg who was able to go a couple of years ago. The children are absolutely beautiful.

As I was reading more about the mission I came upon the most amazing quote that I wanted to share because it really affected me.

"We have three encompassing possessions-our TIME, our TALENT and our TREASURE. Our TIME of course, we cannot keep. Only that which we give to others is lost. We also cannot keep our TALENT. We must use it or lose it. Our TREASURE , at last, is not permanent either. Most of us have lived long enough to know that we really keep only that which we eventually give away.”

If you have time and are interested in what I will be doing you can read about it at:

How exciting! Jeff and I were just talking with someone on Friday night about doing a similar humanitarian trip - "Helping Hands For Haiti". We are in the same boat being students and limited income, but we are going to try to save up for it. I'm so excited for you and hope it comes together! Merry Christmas - see you Tuesday!
